Introduction

This unit will focus on the basic structures of the paragraph and how to effectively use pre-writing techniques. It will also include a reading from Oscar Wilde's fairytales that you will discuss in the Discussion Forum. You will have a short Graded Written Assignment in creating either a descriptive or illustrative paragraph on a topic of your choosing that will be assessed by your peers. Finally, your Learning Journal this week will be focused on explaining how your Mind Map helped you arrive at the topic for your essay.

Although not required, it is strongly suggested to take the Self-Quiz as they will prove useful study guides for the Graded Quizzes later in the unit.

Discussion Assignment

For your Discussion Assignment, you will write a review of the short fairy tale you chose from the Unit 2 reading assignment. You will state which tale you picked, why, and give a brief (one sentence) summary of the story. You will then say if you liked the story or not and why.  Remember, this is to be your own original work, so do not look the stories up to see what other people have said and do not include material from any source except the story.

You are also responsible for replying with three or four sentences to three different students and rating their main posts from 1 (poor) to 10 (excellent) in the Rate box provided.

Discussion Forum Unit 2

You are required to submit a substantial response to the Discussion Assignment, which will be posted by your instructor in the Discussion Forum below. A substantial response is one that stays on topic and fully addresses the assignment in a clear, concise, and meaningful manner. If your instructor requires a specific word count, it will be stated in the assignment.

After you respond to the assignment, you are then required to both give a rating and also leave a significant comment (3-4 complete sentences) to at least three (3) of your peers' responses, in order to receive full credit. Rate only the substantial responses that contribute to the promotion of the discussion, and not the comments of your peers.

Please review and follow the guidelines below for assessing your peer's responses to the Discussion Assignment.

Discussion Forum Rating Guidelines:
10 (A) - Excellent, substantial, relevant, insightful, enriching, and stimulating contribution to the discussion. Also, uses external resources to support position where required and/or applicable.
8 - 9 (B) - Good, quite substantial and insightful, but missing minor details which would have otherwise characterized it as an excellent response.
6 - 7 (C) - Satisfactory insight and relevance, but required some more information and effort to have warranted a better rating.
4 - 5 (D) - Limited insight and relevance of the material; more effort and reflection needed to have warranted a satisfactory grading.
0 - 3 (F) - Unsatisfactory insight/relevance or failure to answer the question, reflecting a poor or limited understanding of the subject matter and/or the guidelines of the question.

If at any time you suspect that a post in this Discussion Forum violates UoPeople's rules regarding plagiarism and/or any aspect of UoPeople’s Academic Code of Conduct, please notify your instructor immediately.

Remember that your instructor will be reviewing responses, ratings, and comments - and will adjust ratings if he/she believes that they do not seem warranted or supportable.

Written Assignment Unit 2

Your Written Assignment for this unit focuses on creating your own illustrative or descriptive paragraph. You get to pick which paragraph style you want to use and you can also pick the topic for your own (three or four sentence) paragraph. This is the main question for your Written Assignment.

This Written Assignment is assessed by your peers and will be for a grade. It will be judged mainly for the following:

  1. Did the student write a paragraph that is either illustrative or descriptive?
  2. Is it a full (three or four sentence) paragraph?
  3. Is it an original work?
  4. Are there spelling or grammar issues?
  5. Does the paragraph form a coherent unit?

Please note that you will not necessarily be provided with the assessment aspects during the submission period in your other courses.

How to stay healthy

submitted on Tuesday, 28 June 2022, 11:03 AM

There are many ways to keep healthy.
For me, I go to bed early and getting up early.
I also have a regular healthy diet and exercise often.
My daily exercise has kept me phisically fit and healthy.
I think that food is also very important for keeping healthy.
If a person eats fresh foods, then it's more likely that someone will be healthy.
Of course, sleep, rest, stress level also dtermine how healthy someone is, so i try to be a positive person.

Illustrative Paragraph

Science can provide benefits and can also cause harm, like a kitchen knife. If the knife is used for a good purpose, then the knife will also provide good benefits for the user as well as for others. On the other hand, if it is used for criminal purposes, the knife can harm other people and the knife user. The same applies to the use of knowledge. If science is used for good purposes, it will be useful for everyone. On the other hand, if science is used for bad things, the bad effects will be felt by everyone. In short, use the knowledge in the way of goodness so that it can bring benefits to ourselves and to others.

City of Amsterdam (Descriptive Paragraph)

Amsterdam is the basis of the economy of the state of the Netherlands, there are some of my relatives there, the city of Amsterdam is not just an ordinary city, it is a beautiful and beautiful city as well as clean and is a destination for tourists and a destination for a vacation. Cafe lovers spend a lot of money to come to Amsterdam and enjoy it every year of the year, and the spending is also on buying memorials, buying fresh drinks, and entering closed tourist attractions such as the red light district and many other places there. But the city of Amsterdam has helped a lot in the development of the economy of the country, which is the Netherlands. Finally, welcome to Amsterdam, be prepared for fun, prosperity, and peace of mind.

Learning Journal Unit 2

For this Unit's Learning Journal, you will write a two or three sentence paragraph on how you used Mind Mapping to select your Topic for the essay project you will work on throughout the course. Let your mind go and explore what topic you want to write about for the next few weeks. Each week we will add information to your draft essay. This week you only need to select a topic. If you want, you can also add a picture of your Mind Map, but that step is optional.

Mind Mapping to choose the topic of my essay

When I am going to choose a topic that I include in my essay, I used a mind-mapping strategy. The first step I have taken is to write the main topic in the middle of the note paper with the topic "my goal". And then, I connected to other small branches related to the relevant topic of "my goal". I did it several times and repeated it again. Finally, I found the topic that I wanted to write for my essay, namely "the role of education."
